The February 2019 issue of the PresPulse along with all future issues will now be available online on the church website (1stpresbyterian.info). To save mailing costs, only those not having access to a computer will receive the PresPulse by mail. There will also be copies available on the designated table in the narthex should you prefer a hard copy of the monthly newsletter. Please contact Jean in the church office should you have any questions.

                               The Paper Pantry

Our local mission project for the month of is to support the Praper PantryApproximately 65 individuals receive items from the Paper Pantry each month.  If youwould like to participate in this project, please bring toilet paper, facial tissue and paper towel to the church and place these items on the designated table in the narthex.  Thank you!                                    

                                              G.I.F.T.S. Men’s Shelter

At G.I.F.T.S. homeless men’s shelter, an informational monthly volunteer training is held every third Thursday of the month. G.I.F.T.S. hosts a fun night of learning, food, fellowship and discussion. A volunteer open house starts at 5:00p.m. which includes a tour of the facilities, learning about the G.I.F.T.S. program and their opportunities, and food. 

Currently G.I.F.T.S. has openings for meals to be served February 10th—16th and March 3rd—9th. Please contact G.I.F.T.S. at their website (www.gifts-shelter.com) for more information and to volunteer.

During these cold months, G.I.F.T.S. would like to offer the men bus tokens so that they do not have to be in the elements than necessary. Currently they are taking donations of bus tokens which may be dropped off at their location on North Washington Street between 9:00a.m. and 5:00p.m.

                                                        546 nights of shelter were provided

                                                 1,041 meals were served

 

                                               Meals On Wheels

                                                               February 25-March 1, 2019

Our next assignment for Meals on Wheels is the week of February 25th. Please mark your calendars and contact Jane Bordner (754.7253) if you would like to volunteer to drive or deliver the meals. 

                                 Out to Lunch !

Be sure and sign up in the narthex to attend the next “Out to Lunch” gathering when the group will meet at Bessie’s Diner at the Rock County Airport. Reservations will be made in advance so please be sure and note the number in your party.

 

                             Marjorie Rath Memorial Scholarship

Applications for the 2019-2020 Marjorie Rath Memorial Scholarship are available in the church

office. Any active member of the church attending post secondary school on a fulltime basis is eligible. Scholarship applications are due in the church office no later than Monday, April 1st. The award will be presented upon successful completion of the first school semester.

Long-term volunteers are needed for rewarding work with older adults at Cedar Crest Inc., a continuing care senior living community in Janesville. Current priority opportunities include:

  • One-to One Visits & Wheelchair Walks
