Our congregation partners with Habitat for Humanity of Rock and Jefferson Counties, (HFHRJC) to develop and build affordable homes in Rock County. Habitat not only builds houses, it builds new relationships and a sense of community. This program gives families a "hand-up," not a "hand-out." Habitat homes are sold for no profit on no-interest, 20 to 30 year mortgages to partner families who have completed their sweat equity hours. As a partner church, we provide workers, food for workers, and host Bike & Build, a group of college students who travel from east to west coast each summer to support Habitat nationwide.
Each summer the group from Bike & Build bicycle from coast to coast raising awareness for affordable housing in America. These young people stay overnight in our church and enjoy homecooked meals provided by members of our congregation. We then coordinate a Bike & Build work day through Habitat for Humanity or Community Action before they travel on to the next community on their way to their final destination on the west coast.
